  Pulsating Prague

Lying in the heart of central Europe; the historic capital of Bohemia and the modern day capital of the Czech Republic, Prague, is home to ancient castles, many museums and vibrant nightlife. Although the city has been in existence for over a millennium it has not become stuck in its ways. Alongside buildings such as Prague Castle, the biggest ancient castle in the world occupying over 70,000 m2 , Prague also has some striking modern architecture such as the Dancing House which almost seems to defy physics in its appearance.

Prague has a pleasant, temperate climate with warm summers averaging around 20°C and chilly winters that can get as low as -2°C during January. Precipitation is low in Prague throughout the year although there can be some rain during the Summertime. In general Spring could be considered the best time to visit Prague as the weather is pleasant and the flora is blooming.

Czech is the official language of Prague and the Czech Republic although most young people will be able to speak English. English language menus will generally be available in restaurants although many police officers and people working in places such as train stations might not be able to speak English. Learning a few phrases of Czech, however bad your pronunciation will always be appreciated by the locals.

Visitors are advised to check out some of Prague's interesting museums. These range from art galleries like the National Gallery in Prague which is not a single building but a number of structures within the city, to museums detailing Prague's varied history such as the Prague City Museum which contains a detailed cardboard model of nineteenth century Prague by Anton Langweil and the Museum of Communism that shows how communism affected Czechoslovakia in the 20th century.

Prague is a great place to go shopping with many different shopping centres such as the OC Letňany which is the largest shopping centre in the Czech Republic and contains, as well as a very of shops, a cinema, an aqua centre and an ice rink. The official currency in the Czech Republic is the Czech Crown (koruna), abbreviated as Kč. Sometimes it can be possible to pay in Euros in hotels in the centre of Prague although this is not advised as the exchange rate might not be favourable. The best rates are found in certain offices around Main Railway Station (Hlavní nádraží).

There are many ways to see Prague's many historic sights. One of which is the unique method of a running tour. These tours are perfect for fitness orientated individuals who want to experience Prague in a fun and different way. These tours take about 90 minutes and the guides are locals who are fluent in English and well versed in the surroundings. Walking tours are also available, as are cycle tours. Prague has more than 120 km of bike paths to its disposal so there is much to explore on two wheels in the ancient city.
